‘Rethinking public equity markets’ with Michelle Greene
13 April 2021
EU capital markets
The Long-Term Stock Exchange is trying to revolutionise public equity markets in the US by encouraging firms and investors to take a longer-term perspective. It received SEC approval in 2019 and launched last year. The purpose of this event is to share what the LTSE is trying to achieve; the support it has received; the obstacles and challenges it faces; and the potential lessons for the European market. LTSE is a fascinating project and I think it will be a fascinating discussion.
The emphasis of the discussion will be as much on ‘long-term’ as ‘stock exchange’: the debate about the increased short-termism among investors and listed companies, the role of stewardship and engagement; and the impact of short-termism on investment, productivity, and economic growth.
As such we expect the participants are from a wide range of sectors including senior executives and policy specialists from European exchanges, asset managers and asset owners, governance and stewardship specialists, investment banks, and policymakers / regulators.
