The future of pensions and retail investment in the EU
25 April 2024
EU capital markets

The focus of this event will be to discuss our upcoming report on ‘The future of pensions and retail investment in the EU’. We will present initial findings; discuss how private pension saving (pillar 2 and 3) and retail investing should be at the core of CMU 3.0; and explore the relationship and synergies between these two ways of household engagement with capital markets in terms of investment levels, risk appetite, and the key structural, regulatory, and cultural changes needed.
The discussion will directly inform a report that we are producing in partnership with Vanguard Asset Management.
This will be a wide-ranging and open-ended discussion around some of the following themes:
The different models for retail investing and retirement saving in the EU
Priorities for pension reform in the EU
The role of incentives such as tax wrappers
The countries that ‘get it right’ and what we can learn from them
We expect the participants will be a combination of policy specialists and policymakers that have a link to retail investment/private pensions.
