Collecting socio-economic background data - Schroders case study
8 September 2022
Driving diversity
The second in our diversity data case study series, this event focuses on socio-economic background data.
As discussed in our 2021 paper A Renewed Focus on Social Mobility, measuring the socio-economic background of employees and potential recruits is the exception rather than the rule for financial services firms. Only 27 of 209 HM Treasury Women in Finance Charter signatories in the latest Annual Review reported they were collecting this data. But that will need to change, and fast – the FCA/ PRA/ Bank of England joint diversity discussion paper proposed diversity data reporting requirements for the Equality Act’s nine protected characteristics as well as socio-economic background, and the industry is under pressure from the Government-backed Socio-Economic Diversity Taskforce.
This event is a fantastic opportunity to hear how Schroders approach to socio-economic background data has evolved since it started collecting SEB data five years ago. We will hear from Emma Holden, Global Head of HR at Schroders, about what motivated Schroders to start collecting this complex (and controversial) data set; the benefits, challenges, workarounds and key takeaways; and there will be Q&A with attendees.
We expect attendees to include HR, DEI, and those responsible/ accountable/ with a keen interest in DEI from business-facing roles, with a particular emphasis on social mobility.
