European capital markets: what’s on your mind?

29 January 2026

EU capital markets

If you thought 2025 was a busy year for capital markets reform, then brace yourself for 2026… As the new Savings & Investment Union strategy begins to take shape, the policy agenda will be dominated by the push for the simplification of the EU framework, the market integration package announced in December, and the wider push to build deeper pools of long-term capital through savings and investment accounts and pensions reform.

This event will be an opportunity to hear and engage with the different perspectives of senior supervisors and policymakers from the European Commission, EU authorities, and national supervisors.

Confirmed speakers so far include:

  • Marie-Anne Barbat Layani - chair of the Autorité des Marchés Financiers (AMF)

  • Martin Merlin - director of financial markets at DG FISMA

  • Rupert Schaefer - chief executive director strategy, policy and control at BaFin

As usual, it will be a moderated discussion held under the Chatham House rule, and we will circulate a thematic summary after the event. We expect participants to be a combination of policy specialists, supervisors, and government officials from across the industry and across Europe.
