UK pensions and capital markets with Dame Julia Hoggett

This will be a private in-person roundtable discussion hosted by New Financial with Dame Julia Hoggett, chief executive of the London Stock Exchange plc and chair of the Capital Markets Industry Taskforce, to discuss our upcoming paper on ‘How to boost investment by UK pensions in UK equities’.

We will be publishing the paper next week in partnership with CMIT. The report:

• Makes the case as to why vibrant public equity markets matter for the UK

• Outlines the decline in the allocation of UK pensions to UK equities over the past decade

• Analyses the potential impact of five different options for reform of defined contribution pension to encourage them to invest more in listed UK equities

• Outlines our proposal for a ‘UK weighted default fund’

• Challenges some of the prevailing narratives in this debate

At the event, we will discuss the paper itself as well as the wider debate on the future of UK capital markets and CMIT’s wider work.

We expect participants to be policy specialists and front-line practitioners from across asset management, capital markets, pensions, and government.
