Virtual discussion on ‘The simplification of the EU regulatory framework’
16 June 2025
EU capital markets

This event will focus on the complexity of the EU framework itself and how it interacts with national frameworks; how complexity is introduced into the framework by the policy making and legislative process; and how complexity may have contributed to the evolution of EU capital markets over the past decade. It will not cover ‘de-regulation’ (eg reducing capital requirements).
The discussion will include:
What do we mean by ‘complexity’ and ‘simplification’ in the context of the EU framework?
The main drivers and sources of complexity
The direct and indirect / opportunity costs of complexity
Specific examples in your field of complexity (the more tangible the better)
How to simplify the stock of existing financial regulation
How to simplify the creation of future financial regulation
Participants will be policy and regulation specialists with an EU wide focus.
